Making Cosplay more inclusive

Cosplay is a great hobby to express oneself and be creative in a unique way. There are no rules, no wrong or right and everyone can get into the hobby no matter the age, bodysize or (dis)ability.
However, there are still some issues people with disabilities face whenever they want to visit a convention.
We started this Website to start a conversation about disability in cosplay and the needs of disabled people who want to experience conventions as a cosplayer and how organizers can make the convention experience better for everyone.

About

We are a very colorful group of different people who came together because we care about cosplay and saw how much organizers in Switzerland still had to learn to make their events more inclusive. Of course not every convention is unwelcoming to disabled people, but there’s still a lot room for improvement and that can only get better if we educate each other and talk about different needs.

Let’s make the (cosplay-) world a little bit better for everyone.

Who are we?

Désirée

cosplayer

I am a disabled cosplayer.
First got into cosplay in 2015 and got into foamsmithing in 2018.
After getting diagnosed with a severe ibd and other autoimmunediseases and longcovid, I had to rethink my approach to cosplay.

Jonah

cosplayer

I’m disabled through chronic pain and several mental conditions and I started to cosplay in 2014.
Having a creative outlet that lets me get to know amazing people at conventions is something that has carried me through tougher times with my disability.

Mirei

Webdesigner

I am also a disabled cosplayer. I started cosplaying somewhere around 2009, which quickly developed into a passion.
It’s very important to me  that everyone can be included. With my autoimmune diseases I had to think about how I can continue my passion as a cosplayer.
